The Ignorance Carol

Have you ever read about a place or time and thought " holy shit what teeny tiny, over rated, under appreciated life I have made for myself"? This happens a lot to me while reading or seeing old images on televsion or in books. I always think what little experience, culture or understanding of what actually went on to get to this time and this place. I think about how people in this day and age live in war zones, under dictators in poverty and I am here with my heated house and car, $1 Whopper,my over priced Red Sox tickets and my inner debate if I need a 42" TV with an HDDVR . I pretty much don't know shit.
I know I don't have a Deloreon or a phone booth with George Carlin and will not have the opportunity to time travel. But I may be able to summon in my dreams the ghost of reality past. I am not talking about Eric Nies, Pedro Zamura, Rufus, Richard Hatch, I mean actual reality. Maybe the ghost summons me, I am not sure how it works.
I just want to peak in on what was really going down during segregation, slavery, war, drug culture. I wonder if people in the deep south really would kill Jack Nicholson for hanging out with hippies jut cause they looked different. How strange was the Haight-Ashbury scene in the late 60's? What was going on in Nazi Germany. Did the Germans really not know what was going on or are they just really good at keeping a secret? How did the slave trade work? Was it like a flea market but with people. I wonder if one of the slave traders was trying to catch a prospect and thought to himself "he would a great tailback if the SEC ever de-segrated; and we can get him on that boat". Books only tell you so much, you know.
Maybe I could peak on my parents when they were younger I know my dad was getting into some shit, but I don't think I would be that interested in my mom's doing, for Marty McFly reasons. Wouldn't you like to watch George Bush get destroyed in a debate at Yale? I bet his professor said "son, you better be agile because I am going to throw something at you soon if you don't get to your point." and how that was the only thing he learned at Yale that he used in his presidency.
Anyways this was supposed to be serious, but this is the stuff that pops in my head when I am reading or watching TV. I think that why it takes me forever to read anything. This sure seems to have gone in a different direction. I guess I am going to have remain ignorant. But it's 3:30 Am now and I going to bed maybe I will have visitor
