So while watching television the other day, I saw an advertisement for a movie about WWII starring black people, directed by Spike Lee. After I saw this I realized what that weaselly, attention whore was up to. During the last year or so, Spike has more or less accused The great, Oscar winning director Clint Eastwood of racism or being racist or racist racism or not giving the black man his due for their services during WWII.
Now, is Clint Eastwood a racist? Maybe, but I don't recall ever hearing anything about him in that regard before. Was his movie accurate? By most accounts the story was pretty accurate. Some things may have been embellished but it is a film and in the world of CGI, extra splosions keep the audiences attention in a backwards kind of way.By no means had Clint Michael Bay'd this film. This was a story about a few particular soldiers and a specific event in history.
Looking back at the HBO series BAND OF BROTHERS, I don't remember very many black guys in that, I am sure there were but, I just do not remember. I definitely do know that Spike didn't accuse Tom Hanks or anyone involved with that mini-series of racism. I am sure we would have heard from Spike had he something going on at the time and needed a little heat coming his way.
To be honest with you I like some of Spike Lee's movies, not so much his acting. I feel very similar about Clint actually. I didn't even like FLAGS.I may very well like MIRACLE at ST. ANNA. But to piggy-back shamelessly on a well regarded movie for your own gain, should be beneath Spike at this point. He is likely the pre-imminent black director at is point and has made quality films, not just movies, actual films with actual content, that people connect with. Let your body of work speak for itself and leave the race issue out.
